Helicopter Flights in Victoria Falls

Helicopter Flights in Victoria Falls

Short Flight – US$ 150.00 pp*
Long Flight – US$ 290.00 pp*

Activity Description
The spectacular helicopter flight over the Victoria Falls is known as the ‘Flight of Angels’.

David Livingstone famously wrote on seeing the Victoria Falls for the first time in 1855 that “Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight”. Little did he know that 150 years later he could have exactly that opportunity. The best way to appreciate the true splendour of the Victoria Falls is to view them from the air. Our helicopters have specially designed ‘bubble shaped’ windows perfect for panoramic viewing and great photographic opportunities from all seats.

Due to the close proximity of Maramba Aerodrome to the Zambezi River, the helicopters are over the spectacular scenery of the Zambezi River within 30 seconds after take-off.

Notes

*12/13 Minute Flight of Angels
After take off the helicopter turns out towards the magnificent Victoria Falls, our pilot will fly left and right hand circuits over the Victoria Falls in both directions giving you the best viewing, photographic and filming opportunities. Soweto:

Soweto is a sprawling township. More accurately, it’s a cluster of townships on the south-western flank of Johannesburg. Its history goes back to the 1930s. Orlando was the first township. In the 1950s, more black people came there from “black spots” in the inner city. “Black spots” are black neighborhoods that the apartheid government had reserved for whites.

Population:

With a population of over 2 million, the township is the biggest black urban settlement in Afric. It has a rich political history. Soweto was the center of political campaigns that aimed to overthrow of the apartheid state. The 1976 student uprising started in Soweto and spread throughout the rest of the country. Many of the sights on this route have political significance.

Have a glimpse of the mansion belonging to Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in an affluent part of Orlando West.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s house and the Sisulu residences are in the same neighborhood.

Leasure:

Enjoy lunch (to own account) at a local shebeen/tavern/restaurant before continuing to the Apartheid Museum which opened in 2001 and is acknowledged as the pre-eminent museum in the world dealing with 20th Century South Africa, at the heart of which is the apartheid story.

A multi-disciplinary team of curators, film-makers, historians, and designers assembled and organized the exhibits.  They include provocative film footage, photographs, text panels, and artifacts. This material illustrates the events and human stories that are part of the epic saga known as apartheid.

The Apartheid Museum:

For anyone wanting to understand and experience what apartheid South Africa was really like, a visit to the Apartheid Museum is fundamental.

The museum is a beacon of hope showing the world how South Africa is coming to terms with its oppressive past and working towards a future that all South Africans can call their own.

At the end of the day, return to your hotel around 17:30.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Should the Cable Car not be in operation an alternate visit to the spectacular Signal Hill will be included.

The tour commences with a tour of Table Mountain (weather permitting; cable car fee not included). In the city itself, we visit the Company Gardens, the S. A. Museum, the Castle of Good Hope and the vibrant and arty flea market, Greenmarket Square. We take a trip through the picturesque Bo-Kaap.

Table Mountain (Cable Car fee not included in cost)

By the late 1870’s, several of Cape Town’s more prominent citizens had suggested the introduction of a railway line to the top of Table Mountain. Plans to implement a proposed rack railway got under way but the outbreak of the Anglo-Boer war put a halt to these efforts. By 1912, with a strong desire to gain easy access to the top of Table Mountain, the Cape Town City Council commissioned an engineer to investigate the various options for public transport to the top. The new cableway was officially opened on 4 October 1997, the anniversary of the original launch, almost 70 years previously.

The Company Gardens have been described as ‘an oasis of calm in the city rush’, and with the trees, the squirrels and lunch-hour love birds it’s easy to forget that you’re in the middle of one of Africa’s most important cities. Spots of interest include a sundial dating from 1787, a Saffron Pear Tree (believed to be South Africa’s oldest cultivated tree), a statue of Cecil John Rhodes, a rose garden and pools with brightly colored fish. The South African National Gallery, the South African Museum and the Planetarium are situated within the grounds of the Company Gardens.
