Supporting Education in Rural Uganda

A community-led school. A meaningful partnership. A chance to make a real difference.

A Visit That Stayed With Us

Sometimes, you visit a place and move on. Sometimes, it stays with you.

When Rick visited Sadhguru School in Western Uganda, it wasn’t a quick walkthrough. He spent time there. Walked around. Sat in on classes. Just watched how things actually work.

And pretty quickly… it stops feeling like a “school visit.”

The place has a different kind of energy. The kids are… there. Fully there. Paying attention. Asking questions. Not waiting to be told what to do. You can feel it.

They’re not memorizing things to pass a test. They’re figuring things out. Thinking for themselves. Building things. Talking about what they’re doing like it actually matters.

It’s simple, but it hits you.

After the visit, the school sent over a calendar the students had made. Drawings. Animals. Colors everywhere. Care put into every page.

Not something made for a campaign, not something polished for presentation. Just something they made. That probably said more than anything else.

A School Leading Its Own Change

Sadhguru School was founded in 2017 by a small group of local volunteers with a clear goal: to change what education looks like for rural children.

Most families in the region rely on subsistence farming, often earning less than $3 a day. For many children, access to meaningful education is limited.

Instead of waiting for change, the team built something different.

A school rooted in Montessori principles, enquiry-led learning, and real-world experience. A place where children are encouraged to question, explore, build, and express.

They are not waiting for solutions. They are already creating them.

Learning That Feels Alive

At Sadhguru School, education is active.

  • Students build, present, and solve real problems
  • Vocational skills like carpentry, farming, and design are part of daily learning
  • Classes often take place outdoors, in nature
  • Confidence and communication matter as much as academics

This approach develops something deeper than knowledge. It builds independence, creativity, and the ability to think clearly in the real world.

Supporting Practical, Everyday Impact

One of the projects we chose to support is the school’s biogas cooking system.

Cooking for students every day requires fuel. Traditionally, that means firewood, with environmental and health costs. The biogas system offers a better solution.

It converts organic waste into usable energy, creating a cleaner and more sustainable kitchen.

We’ve committed annual funding to help improve and maintain this system.

It’s not a headline project. It’s something the school uses every single day. And that’s exactly why it matters.

A Unique Learning Environment

The school is nested within the forests and crater lakes of Ndali Estate in Western Uganda, overlooked by the Rwenzori Mountains.

Nature is not separate from learning here. It’s part of it.

Students grow food, study ecosystems, and learn directly from the environment around them.

This connection shapes how they see the world and their place in it.

Why We’re Involved

This isn’t about stepping in to fix something.

The school is already doing the work.

We’re simply supporting what’s already strong, already thoughtful, and already making a difference.

We’re proud to be part of it.

You Can Help Too

Sadhguru School offers direct ways to support their work, from contributing to a child’s education to helping fund ongoing projects.
Every contribution goes toward creating better opportunities for these students.

If this matters to you, you can be part of it.

A Small Thing That Says a Lot

The drawings shared with us after the visit weren’t made for a campaign.

They were made by children who are learning, growing, and expressing themselves freely.

That’s what this school protects.

And that’s what makes it worth supporting.
