Situated on the fertile grounds of a coffee plantation, Arusha Coffee Lodge is a sanctuary of peaceful gardens right on the doorstep of Arusha city. The lodge is also close to Arusha airport and situated along the road leading to Tanzania’s most famous national parks, making it the best place to begin and end a safari.

Arusha Coffee Lodge is a delightful sanctuary of aromas, gourmet food, and vibrant gardens located on the expansive grounds of a verdant coffee plantation. The lodge is made up of a main area incorporating a restaurant, a café bistro, various boutiques at the Traders Walk, a spa, and a swimming pool. Area Overview

Welcome to Arusha

Arusha is located at the foothills of Mount Meru on the eastern side of the Great Rift Valley. This is the gateway to the northern safari circuit, with easy access to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara, Tarangire, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Mount Meru. Its elevation of 1,400 m (4,600 ft) keeps temperatures relatively cool despite proximity to the equator; temperatures generally range between 10 and 30 C (50 and 86F), with little humidity due to the altitude.

Arusha is serviced by two airports, Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) on the eastern side, and Arusha Airport, which primarily services domestic travel. The two airports are connected by the main road, which is notorious for traffic. There is some good shopping available, including the impressive Cultural Heritage, with curio shops, a jewellery boutique, a Tanzanite and precious stone counter, a bargain center, and an art gallery.

Day 2

Friday · August 28, 2026

Arusha – Tarangire

After breakfast, you are whisked off on your SkySafari flight to Tarangire. Tarangire bursts with great game – especially in the dry season, when animals flock to its perennial river – but sees few other tourists. That means safaris crammed full of wildlife, but blissfully crowd-free.

There is a full-day game drive through Tarangire National Park with private picnic lunch in the bush. You’ll be scouting for game on the drive from the airstrip to Elewana Tarangire Treetops. Elephants are a particular speciality – more than 3,000 (one of the largest populations in East Africa) roam here.
After a late afternoon arrival to Elewana Tarangire Treetops, it is time for sundowners and then a traditional Maasai boma dinner at the camp.

Area Overview

Welcome to Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park covers an undulating area of 2,850 km2 (1,100 mi2) and is an easy few hours drive from Arusha. Famous for its giant baobabs, savannahs with scattered termite mounds, and large elephant herds, this underrated park is dominated by the perennial Tarangire River.

In the middle of the park, the Silale swamp becomes the main source of water and attracts elephants and predators as the season gets drier and drier. There is a healthy lion population and the other predators are often spotted trailing the plains game as they head to water, or occasionally the cats can be spotted lounging in sausage trees.

Day 3

Saturday · August 29, 2026

Tarangire

Start the day with a bush walk with a Masai guide. There’s nothing more electrifying than exploring the bush on foot, getting up-close to the flowers, insects, and animal tracks you might miss from a vehicle. After enjoying breakfast in the bush, you can also visit a Masai village to find out more about the custodians of this land.
Take a glorious afternoon game drive in custom-designed jeeps, looking for a whole host of species – from zebra, buffalo, eland and kudu to lion, leopard and hyena.  As the afternoon cools, there’s only one thing to be done: sit on Sunset Hill, Sundowner in hand, the classic way to toast a day on safari. Enjoy a night drive (permitted within the conservancy) and a chance to see the after-dark shift, from prickly porcupines to elusive leopards. A delicious dinner will follow.

You will experience a game drive en-route to camp where you will be introduced to the bygone-luxe tents of Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp, perched on a kopje in the south of the park. As well as being renowned for its immense wildebeest herds, the area is rich in prehistoric paintings while nearby Lake Magadi is popular with flamingos. Area Overview

Welcome to Central Serengeti

North of the southern grasslands lies the central part of the Serengeti, a beautiful area with wide open plains as far as the eye can see, dotted with small granite kopjes and seasonal rivers. The area is full of resident game and one of the highest densities of cats, especially lions, to be found anywhere in Africa. The eastern part of the central Serengeti was actually closed to tourists until just a few years ago and originally used as a cheetah research base. This stunning landscape of kopjes and grasslands is known for exceptional big cat sightings, especially cheetah.

The Serengeti is perhaps the most famous African wilderness area, its name synonymous with the notion of safari for nearly a hundred years. This UNESCO World Heritage site covers 14,750 km2 (5,700 mi2) of premiere game viewing in Acacia woodlands, open grasslands, and undulating savannahs interspersed with seasonal rivers. The park on the northern side borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and, together with several other smaller reserves and conservation areas, forms the larger Mara-Serengeti ecosystem.

Day 5

Monday · August 31, 2026

Serengeti National Park

Exploring from Elewana Serengeti Pioneer might mean witnessing the replenishing of the Serengeti’s mighty herds: each year, 400,000 wildebeest calves are born in the park’s south, a staggering number, which draws many predators…
Indeed, big cats are a particular pleasure around the Pioneer camp. Lions love to sun-bask on the rocks of Moru Kopje (where Masai paintings can also be seen). Also, the camp supports the Serengeti Cheetah Project, and talks by experts will introduce you to the local cats, and help you identify them when you’re scanning the plains.
After a full, fabulous day, it’s time to raise a final Sundowner to the Serengeti, as the light softens, the earth cools, the horizon glows. Enjoy dinner back at camp, then sit out and listen one last time: to the eerie call of the nightjar and the whoop of a hyena, to the hippos’ belly guffaw and the lion’s nerve-trembling roar…

Quite possibly the most enviable address on the safari circuit, this handful of Cape Dutch-styled cottages sits within the lush gardens of a working coffee farm, near the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater. You’ll arrive in time for high tea, taken with views over the rippling forest, while your butler sorts the luggage. Highlights

Highlights

The Big Five of Tanzania

The Big Five of Tanzania refers to the five most iconic wildlife species traditionally sought after on African safaris: the lion, African elephant, leopard, buffalo, and black rhinoceros. Today, seeing the Big Five represents the ultimate safari experience, rather than a hunting challenge, and Tanzania is one of the best places in Africa to encounter all five in the wild. From the vast plains of the Serengeti to the natural amphitheater of the Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania offers exceptional opportunities to observe these animals in open, protected landscapes where wildlife thrives. For many travelers, spotting the Big Five during a safari is a defining highlight of their journey through East Africa.
African Elephant
Large herds of elephants roam freely across Tanzania’s national parks, with Tarangire National Park famous for its impressive elephant concentrations.
Leopard
Elusive and elegant, leopards in Tanzania are frequently spotted in the Serengeti, often lounging in acacia trees or moving silently at dusk.
Lion
Tanzania is home to one of Africa’s largest lion populations, especially in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, where prides are often seen hunting and resting in open grasslands.
African Buffalo

Known for their strength and unpredictable nature, buffaloes are widespread in Tanzania and commonly seen in large herds during safari drives.

Black Rhinoceros

Although rare, the critically endangered black rhino can still be seen in protected areas like the Ngorongoro Crater, making any sighting especially meaningful.
